Type the UPC-A (12 digits) or EAN-13 (13 digits) of the item packed inside the case and pick the indicator digit, from 1 to 8.
The converter builds the GTIN-14: indicator + product code without its check digit + a new check digit. Click "Generate ITF-14".
Download SVG to print large without losing sharpness. On a case, ITF-14 needs wide bars to be read in the distribution center.
They are two different things that go together:
| Feature | ITF-14 |
|---|---|
| Content | 14 digits, numbers only |
| Where it goes | Corrugated case holding several units of the product |
| Check digit | The 14th digit, modulo 10 (calculated automatically) |
| Minimum bar (GS1) | 0.495 mm: the code is about 77 mm (3 in) wide including margins |
| Bearer bar | Recommended when printed directly on corrugated board |
ITF-14 was designed to be printed straight on cardboard, with wide bars that tolerate less precise printing. That is why it is much larger than the product UPC.
The GTIN-14 reuses the GTIN of the item inside the case:
Example: the UPC-A 036000291452 with indicator 1 becomes the GTIN-14 10036000291459.
If your company licensed its prefix from GS1 US, a GTIN-14 built this way from your own UPC is valid for your trading partners. If the UPC did not come from GS1, the GTIN-14 still scans and works internally, but it does not replace GS1 registration.
GTIN-14 is the 14-digit number that identifies the case. ITF-14 is the barcode used to print that number. You build the GTIN-14 and print it as ITF-14.
Add an indicator digit (1 to 8) in front, then a zero, then the first 11 digits of the UPC-A, and recalculate the check digit. The converter on this page does all of it: type the 12-digit UPC and pick the indicator.
Any number from 1 to 8. Each one identifies a different pack of the same product, such as the case of 12 and the case of 24. Always use the same indicator for the same case. The 9 is reserved for variable-measure products.
GS1 asks for a minimum bar of 0.495 mm for scanning in distribution centers, which makes the code about 77 mm (3 in) wide including margins. Download SVG to print at that size without losing sharpness.
The frame (bearer bar) is recommended when ITF-14 is printed directly on corrugated board, because it prevents partial reads. This generator outputs the code without the frame, which suits adhesive labels applied to the case.
The GTIN-14 (also called DUN-14 or SCC-14) identifies the shipping case. It is the product UPC-A or EAN-13 with an indicator digit in front and a new check digit at the end. It is printed as ITF-14.
Any number from 1 to 8: each one identifies a different pack of the same product (e.g. 1 for the 12-unit case, 2 for the 24-unit case). Always use the same number for the same case.
